The longer you look, the more you see. The core of my work isn’t purely abstract, it is grounded in natural inspiration. Paintings that reimagine nature as a felt presence that beyond what we visually perceive. The abstraction allows room for emotional interpretation while the references to nature provide anchor points. Time and memory are emphasized through layering, half hidden gestures giving my work visual and conceptual depth. Process and experienced based, I use soak staining techniques to create the visual histories, which morph over time as the pigment dries and soaks into the layer(s) beneath. I contrast the soak stains with heavy texture that guide and interact with the liquid pigment, a duality of liquid and solid. Duality is also present through the balanced tension between familiarity and mystery. My technique coupled with the metaphors it reflects makes my work very unique visually and conceptually.
